From Sand to Mud—and more

Our Winchester students continue their Japanese adventures!

It has been a busy few weeks for our 3 University of Winchester students. At the beginning of June, Anna, Laura, and Teagan—along with our 3rd-year student, Rika— headed to the southern city of Kagoshima to take part in the 35th “Great Universities Debate in English” and the International University of Kagoshima. They took part in five debates during the day, winning all but one of them. In the days leading up to the debate, they had a chance to experience some of the sights of the city, including Sakurajima Island and the sand baths in Ibusuki.

On the Saturday of the following weekend, they traveled to Munakata to try their hand at rice-planting on a local farm. They successfully planted the borders of one rice field, getting very muddy in the process before enjoying a BBQ dinner put on by their hosts. The next day, they experienced a concert of traditional dance and music at WelTobata Hall in Tobata Ward.
