All about Professor Hashimoto
Born 29 October 1942 in Manchuria, Professor Mitsuhiro Hashimoto has been teaching at Seinan Jo-Gakuin University after earning a master’s degree in speech with an emphasis on rhetoric and communication at the University of Oregon in 1973. He was an Honorary Fellow at the University of Wisconsin and an exchange professor at Mercer University where he taught intercultural communication and also rhetorical criticism, which are the same courses he has been teaching here at Seinan for many years. Professor Hashimoto, the ex-president of the Communication Association of Japan (CAJ), is the author of many professional articles, including more than 10 books. During his long and dedicated career, he has been the recipient of the Award for Publication on Communication, a Distinguished Service Award for the CAJ and some other awards.
His pet theory is “Language learning has a beginning but no end”. He adds in words of one syllable, “We are still in the process of learning even our mother tongue, Japanese, not to speak of English as a foreign language.”
