Information

As part of Kitakyushu City's annual International Week, Seinan Jo Gakuin University, Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation (FIEF), and the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT) are sponsoring a talk entitled Poems for Mother Earth, and for the second time are hosting an international haiku workshop and contest. Entries marked "Seinan Jo International Haiku Contest" can be sent by postcard to the Asahi Haikuist Network. The contest theme is Autumn Trees. The deadline for entering is September 26; the night of the full moon. Prizes include haiku books, international gifts, and seasonal flowers for attendees. At that time of year, eucalyptus trees bloom, pears and apples ripen, chestnuts soften, maples turn red, willow and paulownia tree leaves fall, and a few persimmons are left on trees for passing birds. The announcement of contest winners will take place during the lecture on Sunday, October 14, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The top nine haiku will be printed in the October 20 issue of the Asahi Haikuist Network.
