Centre of New Zealand

Gorgeous day today, so Yuki, Saki (Kisa), Erina, and I climbed up to the Centre of New Zealand… here are some photos…

Aqua Taxi fun

Abel Tasman National Park

On the second day, we traveled into the Able Tasman National Park. At first we boarded two Aqua Taxis for a wild ride to the drop-off point. We took 4 students from NMIT’s Tourism Department (Renee, Ellen, Esther, and Caroline—thanks!!) as guides. On the way, we could see some New Zealand fur seals and their babies.

Once we were dropped off, we walked 5.5kms through the bush to Anchorage Bay. There we relaxed over lunch, went swimming, walked, and played kick-the-sock. Then we were picked up by the Aqua Taxis for the trip back home.

Camp at Abel Tasman – Night view

The night sky in New Zealand is SO beautiful… the sky is clear, and we can see many stars, such as the Milky Way and the Southern Cross. On camp, we really enjoyed sitting outside looking at the stars and watching for shooting stars. After that, we sat around the camp fire and played cards.

Camp at Abel Tasman – Old MacDonald’s

The place we were staying at was called Old MacDonald’s Farm in Marahau. It’s a large camping area with tent sites, cabins, and lots of animals such alpacas and pukekos. It was about a 15-minute walk from the beach… very natural and clean!
