Today all the students finished their classes at NMIT and spent the afternoon preparing for the farewell ceremony. This was held in the students’ centre, and featured speeches by John Hitchcock and Claire Keanes, presentations of diplomas, and then a series of presentations and songs by the students. With all the girls in different classes, it means they sometimes have to say goodbye to fellow students. Today some of the Kanagawa University girls were leaving, so they held a goodbye party!

Placement test for classes
Welcome picnic in nearby Queens Gardens
Orientation session and campus tour
One-to-one interviews about homestay issues
Tour of the downtown area, explanation of banking, shopping, etc

The last few days have been filled with preparations for returning home, and tonight we held our farewell party for students, homestay families, and staff of VIU. The students received certificates and a gift, then they sang some songs for the parents. Many tears, and photos, then it was time to go home and pack. [...]
It may look like we’re just having fun at VIU in Nanaimo, but we do study also!! Every morning, Kathy takes the students through a variety of activities. Here they are, preparing for their presentations next week. Great students!!
