This week, students from Mr. Zitzmann & Mr. Swanson’s seminar groups started an exciting new community project near Hiraodai in Kitakyushu! 🇯🇵✨

We spent the afternoon preparing the farmland and planting satsumaimo (sweet potatoes) 🍠 and pumpkins 🎃 together. Over the coming months, the students will continue cultivating the crops until harvest time in October.

Our goal is to use the vegetables to make homemade soup for the school festival, with all profits being donated to a local charity group. 🤝 🤝

Through this project, students are learning how to plan and carry out a complete grassroots community activity — from growing food to preparing it for a meaningful purpose. It’s also an important part of our university’s community outreach efforts.
