New Zealand Week
Our final series of events for the first semester is a New Zealand week in the English Department. During that week, students have the chance to participate in 4 events:
- New Zealand movie: Whale Rider – a beautiful movie that tells the story of the relationship between a young Maori girl and her grandfather. The movie follows their lives as they struggle with the strong traditions of a New Zealand rural community, and the effects the sudden arrival of a family of whales has on them. July 20, from 6:00pm in Room 527
- English Lecture: “Reach for the stars! Go Global!” with Gina Whittle – Listen to New Zealand-born Gina Whittle talk about future dreams, the benefits of speaking English, and how to be successful in your career. July 21, from 4:20pm in Room 6206
- New Zealand Quiz: Find the answers to 10 questions hidden in QR codes around Building 5. Bring your answers to Malcolm – the first students to answer get a prize!
- Cooking class: “Scones! Scones are not really a New Zealand food, but they are very popular there. Come and learn from Malcolm how to cook them. You can even eat what we make! [* Limit is 20 people — if you want to join this activity, tell Malcolm soon!] July 26, from 6:00pm in Malcolm’s office in Building 8 (6F)
