We went to Cambodia from February 14 to 18. On February 15 and 16, local students showed us around Phnom Penh, and on February 17, we visited a high school and interacted with local students. During the visit to the high school, we presented books and stationery to the students. The books and stationery were purchased with proceeds from the sale of Black Pepper cookies at a school event.

We were exposed to many new things throughout the five days. The people, the food, the streets, the vehicles, everything was exciting to us. The Cambodian people were very cheerful and friendly. This time we went to Phnom Penh, the capital city, so the streets were very colorful and lively. We also had the rare experience of wearing traditional Cambodian costumes. We wore the costumes and took pictures in front of the Royal Palace. It was a dream come true. We also visited the National Museum and the Tuol Sleng Massacre Museum. Local students explained in detail about the exhibits and past events, so we were able to learn more about the history of Cambodia.

At Batheay High School, which we visited, we enjoyed dancing with the students. At first, the students were shy and confused, but by the end, many of them enjoyed it together, and we even took pictures together. After the dance several students actively came to talk to us. They expressed their appreciation to us very much. One of the girls told us that she wanted to study harder and go to Japan someday. She looked very confident and her eyes seemed to sparkle. Through the interaction with the students, we also wanted to study harder.

Through our stay in Cambodia this time, we discovered and learned a lot. My view of Cambodia changed before and after my visit. There were many things that we could not have known without actually going there. I was also able to rediscover how blessed we are in our current environment. I am filled with gratitude that I was able to have such a wonderful experience as a first-year university student. Thank you very much to all those who supported me. I hope to make the most of this experience in the future.
