On February 2, 2012, we held our final English Lecture. We began with presentations to all the students who did well in both our Reading Marathon and the Vocabulary Challenge. This was followed by 2 mini-lectures… one on “How to read cattle brands” by Margaret Orleans, and another on “The Paperless Classroom” by Malcolm Swanson.

Last night we held our ESS Christmas Party. Rei and Haruka were the MCs for the event, and they organized games, a movie, and a present swapping activity. All the students helped to prepare cakes and other food…

ちょうど私が北九州へ移り住んだ今から25年ほど前、日本は国際化の流れの中にありました。外国人留学生の数がだんだん増え、北九州で快適な生活を留学生たちに送ってもらえるようにとインフラ整備が進みつつありました。私はフランスで生活した経験があり、当時フランス人に大変助けられたので何かできることがあればしてみたいと思っていました。
ちょうど折しも、北九州市が国際ボランティア養成講座を開講しました。それが私のボランティア活動への出発の第一歩となりました。私のボランティア活動をお分かちし、またその活動がどういう形で私の私生活またひいては仕事のキャリアに及んでいったかをお話ししたいと思います。ボランティア活動はきっとあなたの輝かしい未来へのカギとなることと確信しています。

On October 1, 2011, we held our 6th Mallory Cup English Contest [more info]. Twelve junior high school and five elementary school groups performed wonderful skits in English. It was tough to judge because of the high standard of the entries, but the final results were:

On Saturday, July 9, staff (past and present), graduates, and current students took part in an Alumni Association gathering at Seinan Jo Gakuin University. After a meeting of the association, everyone relaxed over afternoon tea and some international music.
