“Daisuki Nippon” Children’s Event
On Saturday, June 25, many elementary school age children came to Seinan to enjoy a day of traditional games and making Japanese dishes. For our part, the English Department ran a cultural and English activity. Malcolm Swanson and 4 of our students first taught the children a traditional New Zealand Maori stick game “Tutira Mai.” We enjoyed practicing the movements and the song before putting it all together for a final performance. Then, we had a simple English vocabulary lesson, and the children drew pictures on the iPads using the vocabulary they had learned. Everyone had a lot of fun, and it was a nice change from our normal programmes. Many thanks to Tomomi, Manami, Chinatsu, and Moeko for volunteering their time to help.
