March 12 and 19, 2021

The 8th Higashida International Conference for Sustainability was held on March 12 and 19, and 11 students from the Department of English, Faculty of Humanities, Seinan Jo Gakuin University participated as moderators and presenters. Nearly 100 people attended on the 12th, and about 70 people attended on the 19th, both from Japan and overseas. Seinan Jo Gakuin University students gave two presentations titled “How Can We Eliminate Inequality in Education? : Activities During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Future Prospects” and “Digital Stories for Learning About Local Issues: The Sone Tidal Flats Ecosystem“. The first was a presentation by the Golden Z Club of Seinan Jo Gakuin University on their educational support project in Cambodia and their activities during the Corona disaster. The second was a presentation on what the students had learned about environmental issues and SDGs initiatives in Kitakyushu during their “Community Project” class, and the digital picture-story show about the ecosystem of the Sone Tidal Flats that they created as a culmination of their efforts. This was the first international conference for most of the students, but they were able to respond flexibly to unexpected situations and confidently answered questions from the audience.
