先日、2月23日から4日間カンボジアに行きました。西南女学院大学ゴールデンZクラブ の活動の一環でカンボジア交流会を毎年行っています。1月にカンボジアの学生2名が日本に来て一緒に観光したり、日本の文化を体験したりと私たちがおもてなしをしました。そして、2月に私たちがカンボジアを訪れました。有名なアモックや本場のココナッツカレーを食べ、黄金に輝く王宮を見学したり、トゥクトゥクに乗ったり日本では体験できないことばかりでした。カンボジアは、英語を話せる方が少ないので通訳をしてくれる2人のカンボジア学生にはとても助けられました。最終日には、2人の母校であるバテイ高校を訪れました。西南女学院大学ゴールデンZクラブからは、黒胡椒クッキーを販売して得た利益から本、文房具を贈呈しました。その後、日本の折り紙と書道を体験してもらい現地の生徒とも交流しました。みんな優しくて私たちのことをとても歓迎してくださって心が暖かくなりました。最後に2人とお別れする時には、自然と涙が出てきました。お互い拙い英語で必死にコミュニケーションを取り合っていましたが、一緒に過ごす時間が言語を越えて分かち合える何かになったんだと思います。ほんとに、貴重な体験をする事が出来て良かったです。
My friend and I recently visited Cambodia for four days from February 23. As part of the activities of the Golden Z Club of Seinan Jo Gakuin University, we hold an exchange program with Cambodia every year. Two Cambodian students came to Japan in January and we entertained them by going sightseeing with them and experiencing Japanese culture. In February, we visited Cambodia. We ate the famous amok and authentic coconut curry, visited the golden royal palace, and rode a tuk-tuk, all of which we could not experience in Japan. Since there are not many English speakers in Cambodia, two Cambodian students who interpreted for us were a great help. On the last day, we visited their alma mater, Batay High School. The Golden Z Club of Seinan Jo Gakuin University presented them with books and stationery from the profits earned from selling black pepper cookies. Afterwards, we gave them a chance to experience Japanese origami and calligraphy and interacted with the local students. Everyone was kind and made us feel very welcome, which warmed our hearts. When we said goodbye to them at the end, I naturally started to cry. We struggled to communicate with each other in poor English, but I think that the time we spent together became something that we could share beyond language. I am really glad that we were able to have this precious experience.
