5月24日、カナダのバンクーバーアイランド大学（VIU）から27名の学生と3名の先生をキャンパスにお迎えしました。彼らは2週間日本に滞在し、起業家精神に関連する日本のビジネスや文化的慣習の側面について学び、国連SDGsに対する日本のコミットメントについて学ぶため、このプログラムに参加しました。北九州市はSDGsの実施に取り組んでいるため、彼らは4日間、市内のプロジェクトや施設を見学しました。On May 24, we hosted 27 students and 3 teachers from Vancouver Island University (VIU) in Canada on our campus. They were in Japan for two weeks to attend a field school to learn about aspects of Japanese business and cultural practices as they relate to entrepreneurship, and to learn about Japanese commitments to the UN SDGs. Because of Kitakyushu City’s commitment to implement the SDGs, they spent four days in the city visiting projects and facilities.
西南女学院大学を訪問した際には、英語学科1年生のグループが出迎え、キャンパス内を案内してくれました。その後、4年生と一緒にSDGsの趣旨に沿った製品をデザインするシミュレーション活動に参加しました。On their visit to Seinan Jo Gakuin University, they were met by a group of Department of English Year 1 students who took them on a tour of the campus. Following that, they joined our Year 4 students to take part in a simulation activity to design products that match the aims of the SDGs.
留学生と英語でコミュニケーションをとる素晴らしい機会となり、多くの友情が生まれました。その日の夜には、小倉の繁華街で行われた懇親会に参加し、VIUの学生のカラオケ上達をお手伝いをしました。This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to communicate with foreign students in English, and many friendships were formed. That evening, some of them joined a social gathering in downtown Kokura where they helped the VIU students to improve their karaoke skills.

- 「今日の活動はとても刺激になりました。モチベーションが上がりました！見ているだけでしたが、とても楽しかったです！早く他の国の人とスムーズに会話できるようになりたいです。」“Today’s activities were very stimulating for me. I feel more motivated now! Although I only watched, I felt like I had a great time! I hope I can converse smoothly with people from other countries soon!”
- 「先生以外のネイティブスピーカーと面と向かって話すのは初めてで、とても難しく、自分の至らなさを痛感しました。同時に、もっと英語を頑張ろうと思いました。」“It was my first time speaking face-to-face with a native speaker other than my teacher, and it was very difficult, which made me realize my own shortcomings. At the same time, it made me want to work harder at English.”
- 「今日のような機会はとても大切だと思います。なので、これを機にもっと語学を勉強し、オープンキャンパスの要ちゃん（学生スタッフ）として、高校生にこういう活動があることを伝えていきたいです。」“I think that an opportunity like today is very important. So, I would like to take this opportunity to study the language more and, as Kaname-chan team member at the open campus, I would like to tell high school students that there are activities like this.”
