2026 English Camp

English Camp 2026 was held on May 8–9 with all Year 1 & 2 Department of English students and staff participating together! This year, we were also joined by a lecturer and two graduate students from Vancouver Island University 🇨🇦 Our destination was the beautiful Nishinagato Resort Hotel, surrounded by the sea with the famous Tsunoshima Bridge in the background. We were lucky to enjoy perfect weather, blue skies, and an unforgettable sunset.

Over two days, students took part in a wide range of English activities focused on:
✨ building communication skills
✨ teamwork and collaboration
✨ making new friendships and connections between Year 1 & 2 students

It was a chance to learn, challenge ourselves, and create amazing memories together!

5月8日〜9日に、英語学科1・2年生合同の「English Camp 2026」を実施しました！今年は、カナダのVancouver Island Universityから講師1名と大学院生2名をゲストとしてお迎えしました🇨🇦 会場は、美しい海に囲まれたリゾートホテル。背景には有名なTsunoshima Bridgeが見える最高のロケーションでした。天候にも恵まれ、青空と美しい夕日を楽しむことができました。

Camp Activities

Day 1 featured our original “Seijo-lympics” activities! Students were divided into 8 mixed teams representing small countries from around the world 🌎

Teams competed in a variety of fun English challenges:
🏳️ flag matching quizzes
📊 country ranking activities
🧠 critical thinking “Escape Room” challenges
🎨 describing and drawing games
✈️ paper airplane contests

The activities encouraged communication, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving — all in English!

On Day 2, our Canadian guests led special sessions about:
🔢 how large numbers are used in real-world situations
🍁 differences and similarities between Canadian and American culture

Students had a great chance to experience English in practical and intercultural ways!

英語を「勉強する」だけでなく、「実際に使う」体験ができる貴重な時間となりました！

On the way home, students visited the famous Akiyoshido Cave! After enjoying a delicious lunch featuring local foods, everyone explored the incredible cave system together. Students walked nearly 1km through the caves, admiring the amazing rock formations and underground scenery. It was the perfect final activity after two exciting days of English Camp. By the time we got back on the bus… many students were completely exhausted 😴 Before long, the bus was full of sleeping students dreaming about camp memories!

帰り道には、山口県の有名観光地 Akiyoshido Cave を訪れました！地元グルメの昼食を楽しんだ後、全員で鍾乳洞を探検。約1kmを歩きながら、壮大な岩の造形や幻想的な地下空間を見学しました。English Camp最後のアクティビティとして、とても思い出に残る体験になりました✨ そしてバスに戻る頃には、みんなクタクタ…😴気がつくと、多くの学生がぐっすり眠っていました！
