Interview: Yuki Kumagawa (4年生)
Yuki Kumagawa has played a strong role in supporting other students, especially younger students just beginning in our English Department. Last year, with some friends, she formed Circle Plus [link], a group which has been organizing support seminars for students in our school.
Q1. Last year you helped start Circle Plus. What motivated you to do that? What do you want to achieve?
One day, I felt the “lukewarmth” of Seinan Jo girls… and as I was really looking forward to growing up as a human, it was so sad for me. Then I decided to change the atmosphere by myself. I had confidence that Circle Plus would certainly be useful. Some students thought the same thing as me, so they need it! Now I still hope that Seinan Jo will be a NICE university—not only the English Dept. but also other Departments.
Q2. What experiences at Seinan have influenced and motivated you most?
Going to NZ!
I have had many experiences in Seinan Jo, and they’re all good for me.In particular, going to NZ made my life change! For example, before I went to NZ, I was such a sensitive person to negative things. But I learned that the world is so big, there are so many things, I’m one of them, and I don’t have to worry anymore. This spirit still helps me now.
Q3. How will your Seinan experience help you in the future?
When I was a high school student, my aim in coming here was to “grow up as a human”. So I’m satisfied with my work, but I want to do more. My experiences in Seinan Jo gave me curiosity, a sense of challenge, and good friends! I’ll keep them in my heart.
