On October 23, seven American guests led by Mr. Russ Borg, assistant chief religious officer of the institute, participated in a discussion about education in Japan and the U.S. using English in an English education class. We were able to share each other’s situations on a wide range of topics, including differences in attitudes toward school events, school excursions, career education, and the profession of teaching. We gradually became accustomed to the natural speed of English and were able to express our opinions clearly. We had a very productive, meaningful, and enjoyable time.

We had a great time welcoming eight American guests to our first-year students’ practical English phonetics class. We all sang Mother Goose together and were also taught a new song called âThis Old Manâ. Linking is a difficult skill to master, so we continued to practice until we could sing it smoothly. We also read one picture book by Dr. Seuss, which is very popular in the U.S., in each group and practiced together. Furthermore, we communicated in English by asking each other various questions and were exposed to a lot of fast-paced English by native speakers. It was a very enjoyable time with lots of laughter coming from everywhere during the class.
