Student Panelist at International Women’s Day Event

国際女性デーのイベントでパネリストに！

3月23日、私は北九州ゾンタクラブが主催するローズデイのイベントに、パネル・ディスカッションのパネリストとして参加しました。初めての経験で何も分からない中での参加でしたが、ゾンタクラブの皆さまのお支えのお陰で、無事に終えることができました。心より感謝申し上げます。
On March 23, I joined the Rose Day event hosted by the Zonta Club of Kitakyushu as a discussion panelist. It was my first time, and I didn’t know what to do, but thanks to the support of the Zonta Club members, I was able to finish it successfully. I really appreciated their help.

今回のローズデイのイベントでは、神﨑智子先生をお招きし、「ジェンダー平等へのバトンを未来につなぐ」というテーマで講演が行われました。これまでジェンダー平等を目指すための歴史について学んだことはありましたが、北九州に焦点を当てた歴史については全く知らなかったため、新しい知識ばかりで大変勉強になりました。
At this event, Dr. Satoko Kanzaki gave a lecture on the theme “Passing the Baton for Gender Equality to the Future.” I have learned about the history of gender equality, but I didn’t know much about Kitakyushu’s history related to this topic. So, everything I learned was new to me.

特に印象に残ったのは、神﨑先生のお話の中で教えていただいた「参加」と「参画」の違いについてです。
「参加」は、すでにあるものに加わること。「参画」は、まだ存在しないものの創造に関わること。
One thing that impressed me was the difference between “participation” and “engagement”, which Dr. Kanzaki explained:

• Participation means joining something that already exists.
• Engagement means helping to create something new.

この言葉を聞き、私はこれまで大学で視野を広げることを目標に、さまざまなことに挑戦してきましたが、そのほとんどが「参加型」の活動だったと気づきました。この気づきを踏まえ、2年生からは「参画型」の活動にも積極的に挑戦していきたいと考えています。
At university, I have tried many things to broaden my perspective. However, I realized that all of them were participation-type activities. After this realization, I have decided to try engagement-type activities in my second year.

貴重な経験をさせていただき、本当にありがとうございました。学んだジェンダー平等に関する歴史や現在、そして未来への視点を、次世代へバトンとしてつなげていきたいです。
I am very grateful for this valuable experience. I want to pass on what I learned about gender equality—its history, present, and future—to the next generation.
