Study Abroad in Christchurch, New Zealand (2)

Saya is also studying in New Zealand, and here she shares some of her experiences in Christchurch.

私は留学先であるクライストチャーチでたくさんの経験を得ることができました。クライストチャーチは山や海に囲まれているけれどショッピングなども楽しめる自然にあふれた都会です。ニュージーランドでは動物やマオリの文化がとても大切にされているので、直にキウイを見たり、マオリ語を学んでいる人たちのパーティーで一緒にマオリ語を学んだりできました。クライストチャーチでは年に一度、無料のクリスマスライブがHagley parkで行われるので、友達と参加していろんなアーティストの歌うクリスマスソングも楽しみました。また、クリスマス当日は友達の家にそれぞれの国の料理を持参してみんなで一緒にディナーを食べ、国際式豊かな時を過ごすことができました。特に印象に残っているのは、友達とハイキングに行った後船に乗ってDiamond Harborの綺麗な景色を見たことでした。途中で荷物をなくしかけたりピクニックをしてる最中に小雨が降ってきたりといろんなハプニングはありましたが、船に乗った時は快晴で真っ青な空とエメラルドグリーンの湖を見ることが出来ました。景色が良かったのもありますが、仲のいいメンバーで一緒に行けたのもあり、この日が私にとって忘れられない思い出です。クライストチャーチの人達は優しく穏やかでフレンドリーな人ばかりで治安も日本と変わらないくらい良かったのでまた機会があれば訪れたいです。

I was able to gain many experiences during my time studying abroad in Christchurch. Christchurch is a city full of nature, surrounded by mountains and the sea, yet it also offers plenty of opportunities for shopping and entertainment. In New Zealand, animals and Maori culture are highly valued, and I had the chance to see kiwis up close and join a party with people learning Maori, where I also learned a bit of the language. In Christchurch, a free Christmas concert is held annually at Hagley Park. I went with my friends and enjoyed listening to various artists perform Christmas songs. On Christmas Day, we each brought our home countries cuisines to a friend’s house and we had an international dinner and shared a memorable time together. One of the most unforgettable experiences was going hiking with my friends and then taking a boat to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Diamond Harbor. There were some mishaps along the way, like almost losing our luggage and getting caught in light rain during a picnic, but the weather cleared up when we got on the boat. We could see a bright blue sky and emerald-green lake views. While the scenery was beautiful, being able to go with my close friends also made this day an unforgettable memory for me. The people of Christchurch were kind, calm, and friendly. The city felt just as safe as Japan, and I would love to visit again if I have the chance.
